An Update About SOAK’s Production & What to Expect Next

It has been a crazy few months. We’ve been working hard on finalizing everything before moving into production, and we wanted to provide you with an update on what’s happened so far and what to expect next.

We’re thrilled with the response we’ve received so far, and can’t believe how excited and eager everybody is about getting their Slides.

Success Comes Down to the Decisions You Make

Our goal with SOAK is to make women’s lives a little more comfortable everyday. We know first-hand how hectic life can get and the last thing we need at the end of the day is a pair of achy feet, whether that be from the heels we ran in across town to make that meeting or because in the morning rush to get the kids to school we threw on a pair of flip flops or ballet flats. We are committed to comfort – your comfort – and since the success of the Kickstarter campaign our singular focus has been on making sure every detail about the design of our Slide is just right.

A few weeks ago, we were faced with a tough decision. The final prototype had come in and everything looked perfect. But after trying them on and spending more time with them, something just didn’t feel right.

The weight of the shoe should have been lighter, the fit of the strap around the foot was not secure enough, and we felt the arch should be more pronounced to provide the optimal support we were aiming for.

So we had two options

Make an extra round of changes to make sure we deliver a product that we believe in, or
Approve the prototype and move onto the next phase of production, while compromising on our #1 priority.

We went with the first option.

It was a tough decision, and one we stand behind. Because of the changes we made – which on the surface might seem minor – SOAK slides will be more comfortable and have even better arch support than the original designs.

The first thing we did was move to a two-part mold, which allows us to use different types of PVC material when producing the shoe. We used a sturdier material for the sole (the white part in the diagram above) to improve the Slide’s durability. For the foot bed (the pink part) we went with a softer variation to – you guessed it – add more comfort.

We removed some material from the sole to make the shoe lighter, and added more arch support which is essential for healthy feet and preventing back and knee pain.

A drop under the upper sole was added to allow for a better fit, and the top strap was shortened the to better secure your feet in the shoe. (We wouldn’t want our Slides sliding off you, now, would we?)

Making tough decisions comes with the territory when you’re an entrepreneur, and this was no exception. But as we move into the next phase of production, were more confident than ever that the finished Slides will live up to our promise to give you the most comfortable, high-quality pair of Slides you ever slip your feet into. Which means we’ll be staying true to our Made in America ethos and position SOAK to achieve our mission to bring jobs back to the state of Maine. All while delivering on our promise to make your lives just a little bit easier each day.

Tomorrow you’ll receive an email asking you to confirm your order. We want to make sure that everything is right with you order when your Slides arrive. There will be instructions in the email on how to update your order for accuracy information if that’s necessary.

On July 16th, we will be approving the final version of the prototype, and set the dates for our production schedule.

On July 17th, we’ll be following up with each of you to confirm shipment dates and let you know when to expect your first pair(s) of Slides.

From there we’ll be providing regular updates on our progress to keep you all in the loop and make sure that your expectations are properly managed. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible with you as we get ready to ship, and to keep any surprises to a minimum.

We’re All Ears

We want to make sure that we answer all of your questions and address any comments or concerns you might have. So we’ve setup a contact form you can use to make sure we don’t lose track of anything. We will answer every inquiry we receive as promptly as we can.

Now go out and SOAK up the summer! We’ll be in touch with you all tomorrow.

This is so exciting!
